DICKINSON, N.D. – The Valley City State volleyball team opened the second half of conference play with a sweep over Dickinson State Friday afternoon, 25-19, 26-24 and 25-16.
VCSU posted a .234 attack percentage Friday, its best hitting efficiency since its last matchup with Dickinson on Sept. 18 when the Vikings hit .309. VCSU improves to 11-11 on the season and 3-3 in the NSAA. Dickinson falls to 5-17 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
The Vikings held onto an early lead in the first set, taking a 9-3 run capped by a
Macy Fridgen kill to hold a 12-8 lead. VCSU led by as much as six points down the stretch at 22-16 on a
Rosie Anderson kill to build a 22-16 advantage they would hold onto the rest of the way to take a 25-19 victory in the opening set.
Dickinson managed to keep the second set closer and posted a match-high 14 kills. With the set tied at 22-22, the teams traded points until VCSU found two in a row on a block from Freije and
Sadie Hansen as well as a DSU error to finish the set 26-24.
VCSU then erupted with a 15-6 lead in the third set, commanding an early lead they would take all the way.
JayCee Richter sealed the match with a service ace to take the final set 25-16.
Macy Fridgen led the Vikings with 15 kills in the match while
Emma Lucas added eight and
Morgan Nelson and
Morgan Freije each recorded seven. Fridgen, Freije and Nelson each contributed three blocks at the net for VCSU.
Sadie Hansen contributed 35 set assists, eight digs and four kills in the match.
JayCee Richter totaled 18 digs and two service aces for the Vikings.
Reagan Bogenreif added nine digs, while
Delani Clarke totaled eight and
Gracie Schumacher chipped in seven.
Dickinson's Madi Wahl and McKenzie Moser each finished with eight kills in the match. Rylee Kogolshak finished with a double double for DSU, posting 27 set assists and 12 digs Friday. Aubrey Allison led all players with 21 digs for the Blue Hawks.
