MAPLETON, N.D. – The Valley City State golf teams competed Tuesday in a dual with Mayville State, who is in their inaugural golf season. The tournament was held in blustery conditions at the par-72 Maple River Golf Club in Mapleton, N.D.
VCSU's
Sydney Carlson won individual medalist honors with an 86 to lead the Viking women, who took the top five spots in the tournament.
Kathleen Vetter took her first career runner-up finish with an 89 on the day.
Winter Oldrock placed third with a 92, and
Sydney Staus carded a 94, including two birdies, to place fourth.
Paige Hulm shot a 96 to round out the top five.
Amber Knutson played as an individual and carded a 120 at the dual.
Valley City State carded a 361 as a team Tuesday. Mayville State's women did not have enough golfers to field a team score.
The Viking men bested the Comets with a 355 team score to Mayville's 359.
Owen Haase,
Wyatt Meisch and
Grant Inniger each fired an 86 on the day. After the tie-breaker, Haase came out with a runner-up finish while Meisch placed third and Inniger finished fourth. Meisch and Inniger carded two birdies each in the dual.
Zach St. Aubin shot a 97 to place seventh while Henrik Jacobson finished with a 101 to tie for eighth.
Alex Aker carded a 110 and
Parker Heydt shot a 113 to round out VCSU's golfers.
Mayville's Damian Pokrzywinski won individual medalist honors with a 10-over-par 82.
UP NEXT: VCSU travels to Fergus Falls, Minn. for the Spartan Invite on Friday, Sept. 8. Golfers tee off at 11 a.m. at Pebble Lake Golf Course.
