VCSU sweeps 4-game series with PC

FOREST CITY, IOWA – Valley City State University continued its offensive onslaught on Saturday, putting up 36 runs as they completed a four-game series sweep of Presentation College.
 
The Vikings hit 12 home runs – including four in a row – and seven doubles during Saturday's doubleheader sweep, picking up a 23-2 in in game one and a 13-9 win in game two.
 
Nine different Vikings hit home runs Saturday, including two each by Drew Nixon, Shane Nixon and Judson Seliskar.
 
On the mound, Hunter Magnuson and Daniel Alvarado each gave the Vikings five strong innings to pick up wins.
 
Valley City State improves to 10-22 overall and 6-10 in the North Star Athletic Association. Presentation College drops to 0-30 overall and 0-16 in conference play.
 
As a team. Valley City State batted .449 during the four-game series with Presentation College. The Vikings hit 20 home runs and 13 doubles, finishing with a team slugging percentage of .993.
 
Up next: Valley City State is back in Forest City, Iowa, next weekend for a four-game series against Waldorf University.
 
VCSU 23, Presentation 2 (7 innings)
The Vikings scored at least four runs in each of the first four innings, building a 22-0 lead en route to the 23-2 win.
 
VCSU pounded out 18 hits (six home runs and three doubles) and did not commit an error. The Vikings scored four runs in the first inning, seven in the second, five in the third and six in the fourth.
 
Judson Seliskar and Dustin Mertz each hit home runs and drove in four runs apiece. Jaden Babiuk went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Ethan Muchow and Carter Dodd also both hit home runs and drove in three runs each. Drew Nixon and Christian Ramirez added home runs; Jett Salonek had two doubles and scored four runs; and Cam Pero went 3-for-4 with a double.
 
Hunter Magnuson pitched five good innings, allowing just two hits and two runs. He walked two and struck out six. Keeton Clark and Andrew Gartrell both pitched scoreless innings in relief.
 
VCSU 13, Presentation 9
The Vikings hit six more home runs in game two – including four straight blasts during a 10-run third inning. Adam Thompson, Jaden Babiuk, Drew Nixon and Judson Seliskar hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs during the big inning.
 
Shane Nixon hit a pair of 2-run home runs, including one in the second inning and one in the third. VCSU finished with six home runs and four doubles in the game. The Vikings trailed 5-2 before taking for good with the big 10-run inning. Babiuk had three more hits and three RBIs in game two, giving him a seven-hit day.
 
Shane Nixon was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Dustin Mertz was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs. Drew Nixon, Kaden Rozdeba and Ethan Muchow had two hits each.
 
Daniel Alvarado started on the mound and went five innings for the win. He gave up six hits and seven runs – only three of which were earned. He walked one and struck out five. Carter Dodd pitched a scoreless inning of relief, and Riley Resnick finished off the game in the seventh inning.
