2023-24: Senior season... Appeared in 45 games and made 45 starts, primarily in right field; Batted .245 with28 runs scored, 9 doubles, 6 home runs and 29 RBIs; Led the team in runs, stolen bases, home runs and RBIs; Had a .419 slugging percentage and a .354 on-base percentage; Finished with 10 stolen bases in 13 attempts; Mertz finished his Viking career with 30 home runs (3rd in school history), 86 walks (3rd), 130 runs scored (5th), 112 RBIs (6th), 35 doubles (6th), 38 stolen bases (6th) and 173 hits (11th). 

2022-23: Junior season... Appeared in 47 games and made 36 starts as a two-way player; Batted .290 with 36 runs, 10 doubles, 2 triples, 9 home runs and 27 RBIs; Drew a team-high 23 walks and also led the team with 14 stolen bases; Had a .385 on-base percentage and a .555 slugging percentage; Made 8 pitching appearances and 5 starts; Posted a 1-4 record with a 6.15 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched; Had 19 strikeouts and 14 walks; Opponents batted just .277

2021-22: Sophomore season... Appeared in 36 games and made 34 starts; Batted .331 with 32 runs, 5 doubles, 5 home runs and 26 RBIs; Had 21 walks and 9 stolen bases; Finished with a .435 on-base percentage and a .485 slugging percentage; Pitched 5 innings and finished with a 12.60 ERA; Named 2nd Team All-Conference

2020-21: Freshman season... Appeared in 39 games and made 35 starts; Led the team and the conference with a .405 batting average; Had 10 home runs, 11 doubles and one triple; Scored 34 runs and drove in 30 runs; Had a .776 slugging percentage and drew 23 walks as part of a .514 on-base percentage; Went 5-for-5 on stolen bases; Hit seven home runs in seven games from March 29 to April 6; Named 1st Team All-Conference; Named NSAA Player of the Week on April 5
