VALLEY CITY – Viking senior
Taylor Sargent qualified for nationals Wednesday night as the Valley City State track and field team hosted the Viking Twilight Meet.
Racing in zero wind conditions at VCSU's John and Diane Hill Track Complex, Sargent won the 100-meter hurdles with a school record time of 14.68 seconds. That came in just under the national qualifying time of 14.70 seconds as Sargent secured her spot at the NAIA national meet. It is Sargent's first outdoor qualifying mark and breaks her previous best in the 100 hurdles by .05 seconds. She previously qualified for nationals in the 60-meter hurdles during the indoor season.
Sargent joins
Kendra Odegard (javelin) and
Jaiden Peraza (high jump) as Vikings who have qualified to compete May 24-26 at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Marion, Ind.
