BISMARCK, N.D. – Valley City State sent three athletes to compete at the U-Mary Winter Classic in Bismarck. Zeke Barnick,
Grace Backstrom and
Frida Barrera.
Barnick, a sophomore from Edgeley, North Dakota competed in the High Jump and Long Jump. In the Long Jump, Barnick jumped 6.52M which placed him fifth in the event. In the High Jump, he cleared 1.91M which was good enough for sixth. Barnick picked up seven team points for the Vikings.
Backstrom, a sophomore from Emily, Minnesota was in three events. In the 400 Meters she placed seventh with a time of 1:03.78. She also competed in the High Jump and Long Jump. In the High Jump she cleared 1.59m which placed her fifth. In the Long Jump she jumped 4.88m to finish ninth.
Barrera, a freshman from Clara City, Minnesota, ran in the 600 Meters and placed sixth with a time of 1:40.20 seconds.
Backstrom and Barrera combined to score nine points for the Vikings.
The Vikings have two meets again next weekend with the UND Indoor Multi and Open in Grand Forks. They are will also have athletes at the SDSU Open Meet in Brookings, South Dakota.
