VCSU sweeps Saints in walk-off fashion Monday

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Valley City State softball team picked up a pair of walk-off wins Monday against Presentation College.
 
Riley Perryman hit a 3-run double that put the Vikings ahead 11-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning to decide the game by run rule. VCSU then took a low-scoring game to extra innings with the Saints, scoring Perryman on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Marissa Hawkins to win 2-1 in the bottom of the eighth.
 
VCSU finished the series 3-1 against Presentation and improves to 16-19 overall. The Vikings are now 10-5 in conference play. Presentation drops to 10-18 overall and 6-8 in the NSAA.
 
Up Next: VCSU faces Mayville State on Tuesday, April 18 at 10 a.m. in Casselton. The doubleheader is rescheduled from April 5 that was canceled due to weather and field conditions.
 
VCSU 11, Presentation 1 (5 innings)
Joelle Lamontagne had another solid appearance in the pitcher's circle Monday, coming off a 10-0 shutout on Sunday. She allowed just one unearned run on three hits in an 11-1 Viking victory.
 
Riley Perryman delivered a bases clearing double in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the Vikings up 11-1 and end the game by run rule. In the game, Perryman drove in five runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
 
Ashlyn Diemert chipped in two hits, scored three runs, and drove in four Monday. Ashlynne Copinga, Andrea Rodriguez and Saige Forseth scored two runs apiece.
 
Presentation's Camille Vestal, Sarah Shevenell and Yulissa Pena each had a hit in the game and Breanna Dunn scored the Saints' only run.
 
Lauren Paredes got the loss after 4 and 2/3 innings of work, walked six and struck out three. She allowed 11 runs, five of which were earned, on seven hits.
 
 
VCSU 2, Presentation 1 (8 innings)
VCSU then defeated the Saints 2-1 in a pitcher's duel after taking the game to eight innings. VCSU's Maddy Zander and Presentation's Lauren Paredes only allowed a run apiece after 7 complete innings.

The Vikings tied the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly from Riley Perryman, scoring Copinga. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Perryman tripled followed by a walk-off sacrifice fly by Marissa Hawkins to take the 2-1 win. Zander finished with a complete game and allowed just four hits. She walked in Presentation's only run as a part of five walks on the day.
 
VCSU's Copinga, Perryman, Rodriguez and Alyssa DePoorter each had a hit in the game and Copinga and Perryman each scored a run.
 
Paredes got the loss for the Saints after 7 and 2/3 innings. She allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out five. Bella Pinotti, Chloe Dominger, Yulissa Pena and Katie Hanson each had a hit for the Saints.
