Viking basketball kicks off second half of conference schedule

Valley City State basketball has reached the halfway point of the conference season and kicks off the second stint of conference play this weekend at home. The VCSU women's basketball team will also recognize its alumni in attendance at this weekend's games.

Through the first half of conference play, VCSU's women sit in fourth place in the conference standings with a 4-3 record. The Vikings trail Mayville State, (RV) Dakota State and Bellevue who are tied for first place and hold a 6-1 NSAA record. Dickinson State, Viterbo and Waldorf are tied for fifth place at 2-5, and Presentation is in eighth place in the conference with an 0-7 record.

On the men's side, VCSU sits in fifth place in the North Star with a 3-4 mark in conference play. Mayville State, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, claims the sole lead of the conference with a 7-0 record. Viterbo is in second place at 6-1, and Bellevue and Dickinson State are tied for third at 4-3. Valley City State leads Dakota State and Waldorf who are tied for sixth at 2-5 while Presentation sits in eighth place with an 0-7 record.

Valley City State hosts Mayville State on Friday night at home with the women slated to tip at 5:30 p.m. and men to follow at 7:30 p.m. Friday's games will feature halftime entertainment by the Valley City Dance Team.

The Valley City Eagles Club will sponsor Friday's doubleheader and host late night food and entertainment following the games. A taco bar will be available from 8 to 10:30 p.m., and PowerPlay DJ will be on stage from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

VCSU will then host Presentation College on Saturday for a doubleheader at 3 and 5 p.m. The VCSU Drumline will perform at halftime of the women's game and the Valley City Dance Team will perform at halftime of the men's game.

All games will have live video, radio and stats available. Radio coverage will be broadcast on KOVC 1490AM.
