The Vikings took the 3-2 lead in the third inning after Nixon walked, moved to second on a single by Demeter, and then scored on Carter Dodd's RBI single to right field.
That's all the offense the Vikings would need. Butz scattered four hits over his 6 1/3 innings and struck out nine batters en route to his third win of the season. Demeter came on with the tying run on first base in the seventh inning. The right-hander got a groundout and strikeout to preserve the victory and pick up his fifth save of the season.
Demeter was 2-for-2 at the plate with a run and two RBIs. Nixon scored a pair of runs, and both Dodd and Sal Avila picked up hits.
