Box Score The Valley City State's women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five games Friday night, downing Dakota State 88-70 in North Star conference action.
Ranked No. 17 in the nation, the Vikings started off with a 23-9 lead after the first quarter and the Trojans were unable to fight back from that deficit.
Viking senior Lexi Lennon led the charge for this North Star matchup, starting the game off going 6-for-10 in the first half, including two 3-point field goals. Lennon ended the night with a team-high 26 points. Sophomore Mackenzie Huber scored 21 points and earned four total rebounds.
Kennedy Henningsgard ended the night with 14 points and five rebounds. Off the bench, Hannah Schlecht led the team with nine rebounds and also had six points.
VCSU shot 49 percent from the field (35-71), 46 percent on 3's (6-13), and 75 percent from the line. VCSU committed 14 turnovers and out-rebounded the Trojans 34-32.
Dakota State shot 38 percent from the field (22-58), 21 percent on 3's (3-14), and 79 percent from the line. Two Trojans scored in double digits. Jamie Tebben scored 14 points, which led the team. The Trojans other double-digit scorer was Alexis Evans, who scored 11 points and also led the team with eight total rebounds.
Up next: Valley City State Hosts Bellevue University on Saturday and following that they will also host Viterbo University on Feb. 2 as well as Dickinson State University on Feb. 3. Dakota State is on the road at Dickinson State on Saturday.
