Viking women down Bethany College, 66-58

YORK, NEB. – Kennedy Henningsgard poured in 19 points Saturday as the Valley City State women's basketball team won its third straight game.

VCSU outscored Bethany College 23-16 in the fourth quarter Saturday, pulling away for a 66-58 victory on the final day of the York College Classic.

The Vikings improve to 6-3 overall after going 2-0 at the York Classic. Bethany College drops to 0-4.

Henningsgard led three Vikings in double figures Saturday. The junior guard went 6-for-13 shooting – including 2-for-4 on 3's – to score 19 points. She also pulled down six rebounds.

Allí Vandal posted 13 points and seven rebounds, and Sara Schwanke added 10 points. Lexi Lennon scored nine points and had three assists.

VCSU shot just 37 percent overall (23-62), 31 percent on 3's (5-16) and 71 percent on free throws (15-21). The Vikings had 34 rebounds (12 offensive), nine assists, one block and 16 steals. VCSU committed just 15 turnovers while forcing Bethany into 27 turnovers.

Bethany College shot 38 percent from the field (17-45), 31 percent on 3's (4-13) an 67 percent at the line (20-30).

VCSU led 16-11 after the first quarter and 33-26 at halftime. Bethany College closed the gap to 43-42 after three quarters, and took a 44-43 lead early in the fourth. But the Vikings outscored Bethany 23-14 the rest of the way for the victory.

Up next: Valley City State has more than a week off before playing an exhibition game at MSU-Moorhead on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Tip off is at 6 p.m.
