11 Vikings score in WBB victory at Presentation College

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Six different Vikings scored eight or more points and 11 different Vikings scored as the Valley City State women's basketball team used a balanced attack in a 78-54 victory at Presentation College.

Alli Vandal scored 11 points off the bench as the top Viking scorer, but Saturday's game was about balance on offense. Georgia Williams finished with 10 points, Mackenzie Huber and Kailtin Connor both scored nine, and Courtney Dixon and Lexi Lennon each scored eight points. Five other Vikings scored at least four points each.

Valley City State improves to 11-7 overall and is now 4-1 in the North Star Athletic Association. Presentation College drops to 6-11 overall and is now 3-2 in conference play.

The Vikings jumped out to an 18-10 lead after the first quarter and put the game out of reach by outscoring the Saints 26-18 in the third quarter.

VCSU shot 45 percent from the field (29-65), 39 percent from 3-point range (7-18) and just 54 percent at the free throw line (13-24). VCSU had a plus-20 advantage on the glass, out-rebounding the Saints 46-26, including a 16-4 edge on the offensive glass.

Valley City State had seven steals and forced 19 turnovers. The Vikings added 13 assists and turned the ball over 15 times.

Presentation College shot 31 percent from the field (15-49), 31 percent on 3's (4-13) and 74 percent at the free throw line (20-27).

Up next: Valley City State hosts Dakota State on Wednesday, Jan. 27 for a women's and men's doubleheader at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. It will be the first home game for the Viking women since Dec. 5.
