Viking Women's Basketball locks in their first conference win with a 64-48 victory over the Viterbo University V-Hawks on Friday. Three of the Viking players ended with double digit points.
VCSU showed some defensive power by causing the V-Hawks to turnover the ball 25 times, and limited theirs to 17. The Vikings kept the lead throughout all four periods.
Georgia Williams lead the Vikings with 19 points, followed by Courtney Dixon and Mackenzie Huber each with 11 points. Courtney Magnuson with 8 points and Sara Schwanke with 6 were also top scores in Friday's game.
Viterbo also had a couple of players that shot double digits, Heidi Huebner with 15 and Lauren Busse scored 12. The V-Hawks shot 7 of 24 (29 percent) from behind the three-point line, whereas Valley City hit only 2 of 10 (20 percent).
The Vikings field goal percentage pushed them above for the victory making 25 of 57 (44 percent), compared to the V-Hawks 17 of 52 (32 percent). Both teams had a total of 33 rebounds each.
VCSU had only a 6-point lead at half, and pushed through for the win by 16 points. The Vikings now have a 1-0 record in the NSAA, and Viterbo goes to 0-1.
Viking Women's Basketball (2-0, 1-0 NSAA) is back in action tomorrow, Oct. 31 against Rocky Mountain College at 3 p.m. Viterbo will also be playing tomorrow in another conference game at Mayville State.
