Valley City State University took control late in the first half as the Viking women's basketball team rolled to an 85-33 victory over Trinity Bible College on Tuesday night at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
Valley City State improves to 4-4 overall with the big win in the first of three straight home games. The Vikings never trailed in the game, but the Lady Lions kept it close for the first 17 minutes.
After Trinity Bible College (1-6) pulled to within 27-22 with 2:45 remaining, the Vikings closed the first half on an 11-0 run to take a 38-22 lead at the half. VCSU scored the first seven points of the second half, making it an 18-0 run in four minutes of gameplay to open up a 45-22 lead.
The Vikings held Trinity Bible to just seven points in the first 15 minutes of the second half, building a commanding 76-29 lead with five minutes remaining.
Sierra Even led the Viking attack, finishing just three assists shy of a triple-double after posting 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Tracie Boehmlehner came off the bench to go 4-for-6 on 3's and finish with 16 points. Megan Trautman went 3-for-5 on 3-point attempts and poured in 11 points. Viking center Allyson Suhr posted 10 points and six rebounds inside.
Viking point guard Sadiqah Jihad also filled up the stat columns with eight points, eight assists and five rebounds. Steph Pedersen added nine points and six boards.
Trinity Bible was led by Janae Droste with 16 points and Kelby Risse with 11 points.
Up next: Valley City State (4-4) hosts Johnson and Wales on Friday night, and then hosts Crown College on Monday night. Both games begin at 5:30 p.m.
