The Viking volleyball team is moving on the conference semifinals to face rival University of Jamestown.
Valley City State University swept Dickinson State on Saturday during a North Star Athletic Association volleyball tournament quarterfinal match at Valley City's Graichen Gymnasium. The No. 4-seeded Vikings coasted to a 3-game victory over the No. 5-seeded Blue Hawks, 25-13, 25-22, 25-16.
The Vikings (15-17) move on to face top seed University of Jamestown (22-6) on Wednesday night, 7 p.m. in Jamestown. Dickinson State (2-30) has its season come to a close.
Alley Theroux led the Viking attack with 15 kills Saturday, including seven in the final game. Barbara Ector tallied nine kills and Kaitlyn Heuring blasted eight kills. The Vikings hit .179 as a team, led by Theroux (15 kills, 3 errors, .324) and Heuring (8 kills, 2 errors, .429).
Stephanie Miller had 22 assists and five service aces. All five of her service aces came in the first game. Megan Good added 12 assists and three kills. Heuring, Rachel Hummel and Emily Plowman served up two aces each.
Defensively, the Vikings were led by Jen Wettstein's 17 digs.
Miranda Kadrmas led the Blue Hawks with six kills. Ashleigh Aufforth had 14 assists and Natasha Malana dug 12 balls.
The Vikings will take on Jamestown at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the NSAA tournament semifinals. The winner moves on to the championship match. Wednesday's match will be played in Jamestown at the Hansen Center.
