The 2024-25 season marks Vance Christianson's second season as the assistant coach at VCSU.
The 2024-25 Vikings finished with a 26-23 record overall and an 11-9 record in conference play. VCSU advanced to the NSAA Postseason Touranment Championship game but ultimately fell to the (RV) Jimmies. Six Vikings earned All-Conference accolades including Logan Gronberg, Makenzee Stone and Ashlyn Diemert who each earned 1st Team All-Conference and Kylee Banerd, Maddy Zander and Madison Hazelton who each earned 2nd Team All-Conference. Logan Gronberg also earned the NSAA Gold Glove award at 1st base.
In his first season as assistant coach, Valley City State went 28-22 overall and 17-6 in conference play. Eight Vikings were named 1st Team All-Conference including Maddy Zander, Sierra Crocker, Saige Forseth, Alyssa DePoorter, Kennadi Stone, Makenzee Stone, Logan Gronberg and Joelle Lamontagne. Ashlyn Diemert and Maerin Dartnell each earned 2nd Team All-Conference, and Diemert and DePoorter each earned a NSAA Gold Glove.
Christianson comes to VCSU from Mayville State where he served two seasons as interim head coach and two seasons as assistant coach for the Comets. As interim head coach, Christianson coached four players to All-Conference honors and three players to the NSAA Gold Glove team. Under Christianson's direction, the 2022 Comet softball team earned a 3rd place finish in the NSAA Tournament, its strongest finish in over 20 seasons.
Christianson is also co-owner of Diamond Academy, a summer travel softball organization focused on skill development. Christianson coached his 18U team to a USA "B" National Championship in 2022, and earned North Dakota Championships in 2021 and 2019.
Christianson spent three years as the program director of Moorhead Crush Fastpitch and adds further coaching experience with stints at Fargo Shanley and Moorhead High.
Christianson is currently pursuing a sports management degree from Mayville State.
