Immediately prior to taking over the VCSU program, Robinson worked three seasons as an assistant coach at MSUM, and worked the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D. Prior to becoming a coach, Robinson was a standout athlete at MSUM from 2009-13, excelling primarily in the jumps and hurdles. He still holds six MSUM school records, including the indoor 60 meter hurdles, indoor heptathlon and outdoor 110 meter hurdles. He earned several conference and region Athlete of the Year honors during his MSUM competitive career, and was a 13-time NSIC Champion and a three-time NCAA Division II All-American.
