Valley City State University

Clay Mannie enters his third season leading the Viking Golf program.

Under Mannie's leadership in 2024, Sydney Carlson and Kathleen Vetter each earned Honorable Mention All-Conference. Carlson won individual medalist honors at the VCSU-Mayville State Dual and the VCSU Spring Invite. She also recorded a modern-era single-round record 76 at the VCSU Fall Invite.

Mannie helped three Viking golfers earn 2nd Team All-Conference in 2023 including Hayley Shanks, Sydney Carlson and Grant Inniger. VCSU's women also won its spring invite hosted at Lakeview GC in Mitchell, S.D. including a season-low 356 team score. 

In his first season as head coach, Viking golfers Jayden Ewoniuk, Rory Gentzkow, Jocelyn Braunberger and Hayley Shanks earned Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition. Mannie also coached Hayley Shanks to individual medalist honors at the 36-hole Spartan Invite.

Mannie has 10 years of North Dakota coaching experience, including coaching junior high and high school golf. He has also coached youth and high school hockey and spent two years specializing in coaching goaltenders. Mannie played two years of junior hockey and one year of college hockey at Concordia College-Moorhead as a goaltender.

Mannie also serves as a faculty member in VCSU's technology education department. He is an alumnus of Valley City State, earning a Master of Education in 2016 and Bachelor of Science in 2006 both in technology education.
