Valley City State University

Entering the 2026 season, Leon Smith is in his second year as an Offensive Graduate Assistant with the Valley City State University football program. After previously working with the offensive line, Smith will coach the Vikings’ tight ends in 2026.

Smith transitioned into coaching following a four-year playing career with the Vikings from 2020–23. He appeared in 20 games during his career, making 13 starts along the offensive line. In 2024, Smith served as a student assistant and contributed to the development of VCSU’s offensive linemen.

A native of El Paso, Texas, Smith graduated from Valley City State University in December 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Rehabilitative Studies. He is pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching at VCSU while continuing his coaching career.
