Entering the 2026 season, Brandon Bouma is in his 10th year on the Valley City State University football coaching staff. After spending his first three seasons as a graduate assistant working with the running backs, Bouma was promoted to Recruiting Coordinator and Running Backs Coach in 2020. He continues in those roles while also coaching the tight ends, a position group he added in 2024.
Bouma has helped develop several of the program’s most productive skill-position players in recent years. Tight end Trent Finney earned All-Conference Honorable Mention during the 2024 season, Bouma’s first year working with the position group.
Running back Justice Bice was a three-time All-Conference selection from 2021–23, earning First Team honors in 2021 after totaling 1,231 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns while helping the Vikings average 127 rushing yards per game. During the abbreviated 2020 season, freshman running back Taylor Simmons was named Second Team All-Conference after rushing for 516 yards and three touchdowns in seven games.
Bouma also coached standout running back Louis Quinones, who led the NAIA in rushing yards per game and all-purpose yards per game in 2019 and earned Honorable Mention All-America recognition. Quinones completed his career as VCSU’s all-time leading rusher with 3,530 yards. In 2018, he earned Second Team All-Conference honors while contributing to a VCSU rushing offense that ranked 32nd nationally at 177 yards per game.
As Recruiting Coordinator, Bouma has helped expand VCSU’s recruiting reach throughout the Upper Midwest and across the country, establishing strong pipelines in Minnesota, Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. His efforts helped the Vikings assemble a Top 20 NAIA recruiting class in 2025 while building the roster for competition in the Frontier Conference, one of the NAIA’s most physical leagues.
A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Bouma played offensive line at Presentation College in Aberdeen, South Dakota, from 2013–16. He graduated from Presentation in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Business–Sports Administration before earning a Master of Arts in Teaching from Valley City State University in 2020.
