VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Valley City State volleyball faced two Frontier Conference opponents on the road this weekend, falling in three sets to Dakota State on Friday in Madison, South Dakota, and No. 16 Bellevue on Saturday in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Dakota State won Friday's match 25-16, 25-14, 25-14. Madysen Geist was a bright spot for the Vikings' attack, putting down a team-high 10 kills with just one error on 16 attempts for a .562 hitting percentage. Kadie Kocka added four kills, while Molly Bjorneby and Madden Bogenreif had three apiece. Bogenreif also finished with 11 assists and a team-high 10 digs. Gracie Schumacher contributed nine assists and six digs, and Libby Mathern recorded eight digs.

The Vikings totaled 27 kills and 46 digs, but Dakota State's offense proved difficult to slow down. The Trojans finished with 44 kills and a .321 hitting percentage, led by 10 kills each from Lauryn Kloth and Macey Wathen. Dakota State also held a 7-0 advantage in service aces.

VCSU continued its road trip Saturday against unbeaten conference leader Bellevue. The Bruins took the first two sets by identical 25-13 scores before the Vikings produced their strongest set of the weekend in a 25-19 third-set loss.

Eden Carrier led VCSU with seven kills on 14 attempts, hitting .286 and adding two block assists. Bogenreif followed with six kills, eight assists and five digs. Annika Pulju paced the Vikings with 12 digs, while Schumacher added 10 assists and nine digs. VCSU recorded three service aces in the match, with one each from Kocka, Mathern and Schumacher.

Bellevue finished with 40 kills and a .264 hitting percentage, led by Sophia McIntyre's 10 kills. The Bruins also recorded nine service aces. VCSU totaled 24 kills and 44 digs.

The Vikings are now 4-12 overall and 2-7 in Frontier Conference play. They return home Thursday, Oct. 1, to face Bismarck State College at 6 p.m.
