VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The 8
th Annual Ag Bowl Presented by First Community Credit Union is set for Thursday, September 3
rd. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. at Lokken Stadium. Frontier Conference rival Dickinson State will be the opponent in what will be a non-conference game against the Blue Hawks.
Valley City State and First Community Credit Union have partnered together for the last six Ag Bowls.
This will be the 48 meeting since 1986 for these two long time rivals. Last season, they split the two games. Dickinson State won the first meeting in Dickinson 30-15. The Vikings returned the favor by winning in Valley City 29-21.
Jake Deutsch had a career game that day with eighth catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns. In the last 40 years, this series has been heavy in favor of the Blue Hawks who have won 36 of the previous 47 games.
The Vikings are coming off a hard-fought defensive game against Southwest Minnesota State. The Mustangs won the season opener 10-7 over the VCSU. Dickinson State dropped its season opener to Midland out of the GPAC. The Warriors blanked the Blue Hawks 31-0.
Valley City State has had great success in the Ag Bowl since its inception. The Vikings are 6-1 in the previous seven Ag Bowls. The only loss was a 14-12 loss to Concordia College in 2022.
The Ag Bowl started back in 2018 to recognize and honor those men and women that work in the agriculture industry, which is a vital piece in the Barnes County and North Dakota economy. The day begins with a meal and pre-game tailgating and will culminate with the 6:00 p.m. kickoff against Dickinson State.
