DICKINSON, N.D. – Bellevue scored three runs in the fourth inning, and two Bruin pitchers held the Vikings tof our hits in a 3-0 win over VCSU in an elimination game at the Frontier Conference Softball Tournament in Dickinson.
The Vikings end the season with a 27-26 mark. Bellevue is now 24-28. They play number 2 seed Providence in a loser out game to see who will advance to the championship against Dickinson State on Sunday. Dickinson State scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to down Providence 8-7 in a winner's bracket game.
The two starting pitchers,
Maddy Hazelton for the Vikings and Mariah Unverzagt for the Bruins, dueled for the first three innings. VCSU was hitting the ball hard, but their line drives were hit right at the Bellevue defense.
With the score at 0-0 in the top of the fourth, Breane McMurtry singled to left, Marguerite Brown scored to make it 1-0 Bruins. With the bases loaded, and one out, Savanah Short hit a ground ball to the left side, third baseman
Katelyn MacNeill fielded the ball, but her throw home was low and got by the catcher
Pascale Kihn and rolled to the backstop, in the process, Breanne McMurtry and Daniela Ramirez came in and scored to make the score a 3-0 Bellevue.
Valley City State could not figure out Unverzagt who did not allow a hit in her five innings of work. She walked one and struck out two. Carly Bertolini pitched two innings of work and allowed four hits, walked one and fanned two for the save.
Maddy Hazelton allowed six hits and three runs in, one earned, with five walks and two strikeouts in six innings in the circle.
Kylee Banerd was 1 for 3 for VCSU.
