ORLANDO, FLA. –
Hunter Logan's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth broke a 14-14 tie and lifted Valley City State to a 15-14 win over Aquinas College of Michigan in a game that had a one hour plus rain delay and lasted nearly five hours.
Valley City State is 9-8 on the season, Aquinas College is 5-10.
The Saints got on the board first with three runs in the top of the first. Dylan Nguyen hit a two-run home run to start the scoring in the first. JT LaMange sacrifice fly later in the inning made it 3-0.
The Vikings scored eight runs in the bottom of the second.
Evan Gonzalez got the Vikings on the boards with an RBI double.
Diesel Goya brought in Gonzalez with a single to make it 3-2. A fielder's choice by
Hunter Logan tied the game at 3-3.
Cody Wielgosh broke the tie with a single, scoring
Jackson Penner to make it 4-3. On a 2-0 pitch,
Alexis Velasco smashed a three-run homer to left field to give the Vikings a 7-3 lead. After a walk to
Kaden Rozdeba, Bray Papineau doubled him in to make it 8-3 VCSU.
In the top of the third, with the bases loaded and nobody out, a lightning strike caused a delay in the game. The delay would last almost an hour, when the game resumed, Eric Bryce walked in a run to make it 8-4. Zachary Hayes doubled to left to clear the bases and make it 8-7 Vikings.
The Saints tied the game at 8-8 when a run scored on an error in the top of the fourth. In the top of the fifth, Nguyen hit his second homer of the game, this was a two-run shot to left that gave Aquinas a 10-8 lead.
Nick Senn led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run to bring the Vikings to within 10-9. An RBI single by Wielgosh tied it at 10-10 later in the inning.
An RBI single by Joey Hysell made it 11-10 Saints in the top of the seventh.
Hunter Logan tied it with a double in the bottom of the seventh and put runners at second and third with one out. Wielgosh brought in Logan and Goya with a single to make it 13-11 Vikings. Rozdeba scored Wielgosh with a single two batters later to make it 14-11 Vikings.
In the top of the eighth, Aquinas scored on a wild pitch, a bases loaded hit by pitch, and another wild pitch to tie the game at 14-14.

Cam Pero with the tiebreaking run.
Caleb Hoiseth slammed the door on the Saints with a 1-2-3 ninth to get the win.
Cody Wielgosh led the 15-hit attack by going 3 for 5 with two runs scored and four RBI.
Diesel Goya was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Alexis Velasco was 2 for 4 with a HR and three RBI.
Kaden Rozdeba was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Nick Senn was 2 for 4 with a HR and an RBI.
Hunter Logan was 2 for 5 with two runs scored and three RBI.
Brady Papineau and
Evan Gonzalez were both 1 for 4. Gonzalez scored a run and drove in one, Papineau had one RBI.
Jackson Penner did not get a hit but scored a run.
Caleb Hoiseth got the win by going the last two innings. He did not allow a hit, one earned run with a walk and four strike outs. He retired the last five batters he faced, three on strikeouts.
