ORLANDO, FLA. – Waldorf scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth they held of a ninth inning rally by Valley City State to pick up a 13-11 win over the Vikings in college baseball Wednesday in Orlando, Florida.
The Vikings are now 7-8 on he young season. Waldorf is 8-11 on the season.
The Vikings got on the board first with a three spot in the top of the second inning, all coming with two out. With runners at second and third and two lout,
Cody Wielgosh singled to left field, scoring
Brady Papineau and moving
Nicholas Senn to third.
Diesel Goya doubled, bringing in Senn and moving Wielgosh to third.
Hunter Logan singled to left to score Wielgosh, Goya was cut down 7-5-2 trying to score. The Vikings led 3-0 heading to the bottom of the second.
Waldorf would have their own two out rally in the bottom of the third. Cameron Rindone homered to right off Vikings starter
Easton Francis with a teammate aboard to cut the Vikings lead to 3-2.
The Warriors would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth. They tied the game on a sacrifice fly to Papineau in right by Elijah Balderas, scoring Rylan Humphrey to make it 3-3. With two out, Talan Preister singled to right, scoring Cameron Bailey to give Waldorf a 4-3 lead. Mason Smith doubled on a 3-2 pitch, scoring Priester to make it 5-3.
Cody Wielgosh took a 1-2 pitch deep over the right field fence in the top the fifth, making the score 5-4 Waldorf. After a walk to Goya and A ground out by
Hunter Logan, Kaden Rozdenba left homered to left, giving Valley City State the lead at 6-5. With two out, and
Alexis Velasco on second after a double, Papineau singled to right, scoring Velasco, making it 7-5 Vikings.
VCSU added three more in the top of sixth. With one out and runners at first and second,
Hunter Logan hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Gonzalez, to make it 8-5. Rozdeba singled in Logan.
Jackson Penner reached on an error, scoring Rozdeba and forcing Velasco out at second. That made the score 10-5 Vikings going to the bottom of the sixth.
In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded and one out, Smith singled to center field, scoring Bailey to make it 10-6 VCSU. With the bases still loaded, Rindone hit his second home run of the game, a grand slam, over the right field fence to tie the game at 10-10. Andrew Herrin doubled, ending the day for Viking pitcher
Anthony Carrasquillo.
Tyler Sanderson came on in relief of Carrasquillo and retired the next two Waldorf batters to keep the game tied at 10-10.
In the top of the seventh with runners at first and second, Goya grounded to shortstop Smith. They forced Wielgosh at second but the relay to first to try and complete the double play was overthrown, allowing Gonzalez to score and make it 11-10 Vikings.
In the bottom of the eighth, Waldorf scored two runs. With the bases loaded and two outs, Bailey walked, scoring Rindone who had walked earlier in the inning.
Garrett Dykstra relieved Sanderson and hit Balderas, scoring Zane Silos-Holmes to give the Warriors the 12-11 lead. Chase Dodge would walk, bringing in Humphrey to give Waldorf a two-run lead at 13-11.
Valley City State got two runners into scoring position in the top of the ninth on single, a walk, and two wild pitches. With runners at second and third and two out,
Hunter Logan ground out to first to end the threat and the game.
Cody Wielgosh was 3 for 4 for Valley City State with two runs scored, two RBI and a home run.
Evan Gonzalez was 3 for 5 with two runs scored.
Kaden Rozdeba was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, a home run, and three RBI.
Hunter Logan was 2 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI.
Diesel Goya was 1 for 3 with a run scored, a double, and an RBI.
Alexis Velasco was 1 for 4 with a run.
Jackson Penner and
Brady Papineau were both 1 for 5. Papineau scored a run and drove in one.
