JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown scored four runs in the third inning on the way to a 6-2 win over Valley City State in college softball at the Nelson Family Bubble in Jamestown.
Valley City State is 0-2 on the young season. The University of Jamestown is 5-0.
The Vikings got on the board first.
Logan Gronberg reached on a fielder's choice, scoring
Jenna Decker who walked and stole second to start the game.
In the third, Jamestown got to Viking started
Maddy Hazelton. Maddie Spaeth singled off the glove of first baseman
Logan Gronberg, scoring Sonya Rogers to tie the game at 1-1. Madelyn Webb hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Lauren Weigel to give the Jimmies a 2-1 lead. Sydney Grendler singled to score Spaeth to make it 3-1. Natalie Draper doubled to score Grendler to make it 4-1 Jimmies.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Jimmies added to their lead when Jorja Hainsworth singled in Kylie Yanzuk, making it 5-1.
In the sixth, Webb hit her second sacrifice fly, scoring Trinity Gregg to make it 6-1.
The Vikings got one back in the top of the seventh on a
Kylee Banerd double that scored
Ashlyn Schumacher to make the final 6-2.
Kylee Banerd was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Maddy Hazelton and
Avery Kuklinski were both 1 for 2.
Pascale Kihn and
Katelyn MacNeill were both 1 for 3.
Ashlyn Schumacher was 1 for 1 with a run scored.
UP NEXT: The Vikings will be back at the Nelson Family Bubble Sunday for a doubleheader with the University of Mary. Game one is scheduled to start at 9am with game two to follow at 11.
