VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State Women's and basketball team will be hosting two Frontier Conference opponents this weekend at two different venues.
On Friday, the Vikings will host Dakota State University at the Claire Blikre Activities Center/Ed Werre Arena on the campus of then North Dakota State College of Science.
This will be the 58
th meeting between VCSU and Dakota State in Women's basketball since 2003. The Trojans hold a slight advantage with 29 out of the previous 57 games. The series was even in the early 2000's then was dominated by VCSU in the 2010s winning 22 of 23 games. Since 2020, DSU has won 17 of 18. That lone Viking win came last season when they upset then #6 Dakota State. This season, Dakota State won in Madison 70-59.
Ellie Braaten had 18 points and Cassidy Schute added ten for the Vikings.
This will be the 25
th meeting between Bellevue and VCSU since 2016. Bellevue holds a 15-9 advantage including a 70-68 win over the Vikings back on December 5
th in Bellevue. The Bruins led by eleven points early in the fourth quarter. The Vikings used a 15-5 run to tie the game at 68 with six seconds to go only to see Kaylee Denker score in the lane with one second to go to give the Bruins the win.
Abby Aslesen led the Vikings with 18 points and six rebounds.
JayCee Richter had 14 points while
Ellie Braaten had eleven points, five assists, and four steals.
Ellie Braaten leads the way for Valley City State averaging 12.3 points per game, 12.9 in Frontier Conference games.
JayCee Richter is next averaging 9.5 points per game and a team high 6.4 rebounds per contest.
Abby Aslesen is next in both categories with 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
All passes will be honored at the gate. So have your passes out ready to be presented. There will also be a cash gate.
Tip-off will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday in Wahpeton and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in Moorhead.
