BILLINGS, MONT. – Rocky Mountain College broke open a close game with a big third quarter on the way to a 63-37 win over Valley City State in Frontier Conference Women's basketball Friday in Billings, Mont.
Valley City got off to a great start with a 8-1 run to start the game. A three-pointer by
Abby Aslesen gave the Vikings the seven-point lead with 6:24 to go in the first quarter. The Bears would comeback top end the quarter on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 10-10 after one quarter. After RMC took a 10-8 lead, JayCee would score on a layup with 20 seconds to go in the quarter to tie the game heading to the second quarter.
There were four lead changes in the second quarter alone. Then the Bears used a 9-0 run to take a six-point lead with 3:12 to go in the quarter. The Vikings ended the quarter on a 7-2 run, capped off by a
Ellie Powell jumper with 1:01 to go in the quarter to make the score 25-24 Rocky Mountain at halftime.
The Bears started the second half on a 10-2 run to take a nine-point lead midway through the third quarter and never looked back.
Ellie Braaten led the Vikings with 15 points and two assists.
Abby Aslesen added ten points.
JayCee Richter had a team high nine rebounds.
