BILLINGS, MONT. – The long trip to Montana for the Valley City State Vikings is just about over. The Vikings are in Billings on Wednesday for a match with Rocky Mountain College, then head to Helena for a date with Carroll College.
The Vikings dropped the first two matches on the trip, a 3-1 loss at Montana State-Northern and a 3-0 loss to #5 Providence.
In the MSU-Northern match, senior
Danielle Hagler had a career high 19 kills for the Vikings and a .357 hitting percentage. Defensively, senior
JayCee Richter had 25 digs for VCSU.
At Providence,
Morgan Freije led the way with nine kills and a .450 hitting percentage. Hagler added eight more kills, and Richter had 19 digs.
For her effort,
JayCee Richter earned the Frontier Conference Defender of the Week honors. She had 44 digs during the two matches and average of 6.29 digs per set.
The Vikings have net Rocky Mountain four times before with the Battlin' Bears winning three of the previous meetings, including a 3-1 win last year in Billings. Rocky Mountain is 0-9 on the season and 0-5 in the Frontier Conference.
Valley City State and Carroll College have met twice before with each team winning once. The last meeting came in 2022 with VCSU winning in five sets. Carroll is 7-6 on the season and 2-3 in the conference.
The Vikings are 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the Frontier Conference.
