VALLEY CITY – The 7
th Annual Ag Bowl is set for Thursday, September 4
th as the Valley City State University Vikings host Augsburg University at Dacotah Bank Field at Lokken Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
The Vikings have had great success in the Ag Bowl over the years. Since its inaugural game in 2018, the Vikings are 5-1 in Ag Bowl games. Four of those wins have come against rival University of Jamestown.
In 2024, the Valley City State defeated the Jimmies 38-7 in the Ag Bowl. The Vikings were led by senior quarterback
Avery Thorsgard who threw for 144 yards on 18 of 25 passing. He also ran for another 122 yards and a touchdown. The defense was led by
Gavin Gerhardt who had eight total tackles and an interception.
This season's Ag Bowl opponent will be the Auggies of Augsburg University. The Vikings defeated Augsburg on the road 24-14. Offensively, the Vikings were led by
Noah Chambers who was 15 for 19 passing for 157 yards and a touchdown.
Jake Deutsch caught seven of those passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Aiden Russel had ten tackles to lead the way.
James Dahn provided the game-winning touchdown when he returned an interception 56 yards for the score. After
Yzan Lorenzo's extra point, the Vikings led 17-7 with 2:21 to go in the third quarter. The clinching score came on a Chambers to Deutsch 28-yard touchdown pass with 3:34 to go in the fourth.
The Ag Bowl started back in 2018 to recognize and honor those men and women that work in the agriculture industry, which is a vital piece in the Barnes County and North Dakota economy. The day begins with a meal and pre-game tailgating and will culminate with the 6:00 p.m. kickoff against NCAA DIII opponent Augsburg. The Vikings are 0-1 on the season after a tough 30-15 loss to Dickinson State in the season opener. This will be the first game of the season for the Auggies. Last season, the Auggies were 4-6.
