Viking baseball falls in both games to Dickinson State

DICKINSON, N.D. – The Valley City State University baseball team fell in both games against Dickinson State University on Saturday, April 26.
 
The Vikings lost game one of the double head 6-3, and game two 1-0. Viking baseball concludes the regular season with an overall record of 20-30, and 4-16 in North Star Athletic Association conference games. DSU is now 18-27 overall and 10-10 in NSAA conference games.
 
DSU 6, VCSU 3
The Vikings fell in game one 6-3. On offense Alexis Velasco was 2-for-3 with one run. Jamel Chabot was also 2-for-3.
 
The Vikings were quick to get on the board scoring twice in the top of the first. They took the first run from an Alexis Velasco single that allowed Porter Jorgenson to score. They later scored their second run of the game on a passed ball.
 
DSU quickly answered in the bottom of the first scoring two of their own making the score 2-2. They scored on two different one RBI singles.
 
VCSU's Christian Ramirez broke the tie in the top of the third after a single that brought home Alexis Velasco making the score 3-2.
 
Dickinson rallied in the bottom of the fifth tying the game after reaching on an error and a three-run home run hit by Luis Rodrigues.
 
Valley City's Takao Cookson was credited the loss after a five-inning, six hit, six run performance with eight strikeouts. Cookson moves to 3-3 on the season.
 
Dickinson's Rogelio Gonzalez was credited the win moving to 1-1 on the season. Trent Chavez was credited the save after throwing a no hit, no run inning with one strikeout.
 
DSU 1, VCSU 0
Valley City lost game two in a pitching matchup 1-0. Devon Minney was 1-for-2 in the contest. Cam Pero was 1-1 as a pinch hitter.
 
Dickinson tallied the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the eight after a single that brought in their pinch runner that stole second and third.
 
Viking pitcher Andrew Kim pitched seven innings yielding four hits, one run, one walk and six strikeouts. He was credited the loss moving to 1-3 on the season.
 
DSU's Jerry Santiago Jr. was credited the win, his first of the season. Trent Chaves pitched one inning and was credited with the save, his second of the season.
 
UP NEXT: The Vikings are set to play in the NSAA postseason tournament from May 1-5 held in Dickinson, N.D.
