Vikings take Monday split against (RV) Dickinson State

DICKINSON, N.D. – Valley City State split its Monday games at (RV) Dickinson State, including a 10-6 victory that featured a rain delay. VCSU also fell 3-0 in the first game of the day.
 
The Vikings and Blue Hawks finish the series with a 2-2 split. VCSU is now 19-20 on the season and 8-8 in conference play while Dickinson State is now 27-11 on the season and 13-3 in the North Star.
 
VCSU will host Mayville State for a conference doubleheader in its home finale on Friday at 2/4 p.m.
 
Dickinson 3, VCSU 0
The Blue Hawks shut out the Vikings to start the day despite committing two errors in the game. VCSU managed five hits in the game, including two from Logan Gronberg, but it wasn't enough Monday.
 
Dickinson's Bailey Hansen drove in two runs while Brooke Lijewski drove in one as they each delivered RBI singles in the game. VCSU held Dickinson to just three runs in Monday's contest while the Blue Hawks are averaging 6.2 runs per game on the season.
 
VCSU threatened in the third inning as a two-out walk by Gronberg loaded the bases but the Vikings couldn't find a way to score.
 
Maddy Zander got the loss in the circle after working all 6 innings. She allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out five while not walking a single batter. Kennadi Stone doubled for VCSU, and Avery Kuklinski and Makenzee Stone each finished with a hit .
 
Dickinson's Alison Eldridge got the win after pitching a complete game shutout. She allowed five hits, one walk and struck out four. Celina Wilharm finished with two hits and two runs scored for the Blue Hawks.
 
 
VCSU 10, Dickinson 6
VCSU then took the series finale 10-6 after taking over the momentum in the fifth inning and hanging on throughout a rain delay for the win. VCSU posted 10 hits, including three home runs in the win.
 
VCSU trailed 3-0 in the top of the fifth inning when Kennadi Stone smashed a 2-out grand slam. The game was then put into a rain delay for more than an hour. VCSU didn't lose its momentum though, posting four more runs in the sixth including a 2-run homer from Kylee Banerd.
 
Dickinson cut the Viking lead to 8-5 on a Cassidy Venner 2-run home run in the sixth inning. VCSU's Alyssa DePoorter then added her own 2-run home run in the top of the seventh to hold a 10-5 advantage. The Blue Hawks could only find one run in the final inning as VCSU took the series finale.
 
Cooper Klaahsen got the win for VCSU after pitching 5 and 2/3 innings. She allowed five runs on six hits, did not walk a single batter and struck out five. Madison Hazelton earned a save after pitching 1 and 1/3 innings in relief. She allowed one run on two hits and walked one.
 
Ashlyn Diemert and Maddy Zander each finished with two hits in the game, including a double for Zander. Banerd, K. Stone and DePoorter each homered, and combined for eight RBIs for the Vikings.
 
Dickinson's Celina Wilharm was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, drove in one run and scored two. Hope Fath got the loss for the Blue Hawks after starting in the circle and working 5 complete innings. She allowed six runs on six hits, walked one and struck out one.
