Baseball takes 7-4 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene University

ORLANDO, FLA – Valley City State University baseball took down Mount Vernon Nazarene University 7-4 on Tuesday, March 4.
 
The Vikings improve their record to 7-7 and are now 2-2 during the RussMatt Invitational. Mount Vernon Nazarene University is now 13-3 overall.

The Vikings rally in the sixth leading to a 7-4 victory. Jamel Chabot was 2-for-3 with two RBI's. Jaden Babiuk went 2-for-4 with two RBI's and one run. Daegen Morcom was 2-for-2.
 
Mount Vernon got on the board early with a single shot home run in the first. The Vikings later responded in the bottom of the third tallying three runs. Morcom got on base earning a walk, Diesel Goya reached on an error. Jamel Chabot laid down a sacrifice bunt advancing Goya and Morcom. Babiuk singled to left driving in two runs. Kaden Rozdeba doubled scoring Babiuk making the score 3-1.
 
Mount Vernon responded scoring on run in the fourth, later tallying two in the sixth to reclaim the lead at 4-3 going into the bottom of the sixth.
 
In the bottom of the sixth Alexis Velasco reached on an error. Papineau sacrificed advancing pinch runner Rogers. Cody Wielgosh and Kellen Scruggs both were walked loading the bases. Judson Seliskar was hit by a pitch scoring the tying run. Goya grounded out scoring Wielgosh taking a 5-4 lead. Chabot doubled earning two RBI's scoring Scruggs and Morcom growing the lead to 7-4. The game would go three more scoreless innings ending 7-4.
 
Eli Chabot pitched two innings earning the win, now 1-0 on the year. He had two strikeouts, giving up only one walk and hit. Anthony Carrasquillo pitched the final two innings earning the save. Carrasquillo pitched two strikeouts giving up zero hits and only one walk.
 
Mount Vernon's Armando Gonzalez pitched one inning giving up four runs and was credited the loss.
 
UP NEXT: The Vikings will play Dordt University at 9:00 a.m. CT on Wednesday, March 5.
