ORLANDO, FLA. – The Valley City State University baseball team took a pair of wins over Judson University in their Thursday, March 13 doubleheader. The Vikings took game one with a score of 4-2 and game two 12-6.
The Vikings improve their record to 12-11 overall and 7-6 in the RussMatt Invitational. Judson is now 8-8 overall and 2-4 in their trip to Florida.
VCSU 4, JU 2
The Vikings tallied two runs in the second and fifth innings in route to a 4-2 win over Judson University. Viking
Porter Jorgenson went 2-for-2 with a double, one run and one walk.
Daegen Morcom was 1-for-2 on the day with a double and two RBI's.
The Judson Eagles scored the game's first run in the top of the first. Judson set up their first run with a single followed by a walk. Their baserunner advanced on a fly out, later scoring on a ground out to make the game 1-0.
The Vikings later responded scoring two in the bottom of the second.
Cam Pero and
Judson Seliskar opened the inning getting on first and second from two walks.
Daegen Morcom stepped up nailing a two RBI double to center field scoring Pero and Seliskar.
The Eagles later tied the game in the top of the fourth scoring on a single shot home run. One inning later the Vikings reclaimed the lead with
Porter Jorgenson scoring on a wild pitch making the game 3-2.
Jaden Babiuk later singled to right field driving in
Diesel Goya making the game 4-2.
Viking pitcher
Hunter Magnuson was credited with the win now 3-2 on the season, after pitching a little over five innings tallying three strikeouts while only allowing two runs.
Eli Chabot came in relief earning two strikeouts. Chabot didn't allow any hits or runs.
Judson's Owen Wanner was credited with the loss after pitching four innings allowing four runs and four hits. He had four strikeouts during his time at the mound.
VCSU 12, JU 6
The Vikings scored five runs in the first innings and seven more to score 12 against Judson, taking a 12-6 win. The Vikings were led by
Jaden Babiuk who went 3-for-4, scoring three runs, and one RBI.
Jamel Chabot was 2-for-3, scoring one run, and two RBIs.
The Vikings started the game with and eventful first inning.
Cam Pero got on base with a walk.
Jaden Babiuk singled to left advancing Pero.
Jamel Chabot laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Pero but reached first on an error by the third baseman making the score 1-0.
Alexis Velasco was hit by a pitch getting on base.
Porter Jorgenson singled scoring Babiuk. With the score of 2-0,
Hunter Logan put the ball in play scoring Chabot and reaching on an error.
Brady Papineau grounded into a double play that Velasco scored on. Later Jorgenson scored on a wild pitch making it 5-0.
Judson tallied two in the first scoring on a double and an error in the outfield. In the top of the second, Goya scored on a
Cam Pero double making it 6-2. They scored two more in the third scoring two more on a passed ball.
In the top of the fifth
Jamel Chabot sent a line drive to center field that drove in Goya and Babiuk. Judson later scored three in the bottom of the fifth making the score 10-5. The Vikings scored two more in the top of the seventh expanding their lead to 12-5. They scored on a single from
Jaden Babiuk and a passed ball.
Judson added one more in the bottom of the seventh making the score 12-6 where the game would end.
Viking Pitcher
Jacob Marx would earn the win moving to 1-0 on the season. He threw three innings with one strikeout, giving up three runs.
Harrison Metz,
Caleb Hoiseth and
Garrett Dykstra also made appearances.
Judson's Nico Acevedo pitched two and a third innings allowing eight runs and was credited with the loss.
