ORLANDO, FLA. – The Valley City State University baseball team fell 5-2 against the Judson University Eagles on Sunday, March 9.
The Vikings are now 9-10 on the season and 4-5 while at the RussMatt Invitational. The Judson Eagles are now 7-4 on the season and 1-0 to start their trip to Florida.

The Vikings fell 5-2 to the Judson Eagles.
Cody Wielgosh was 2-for-3 with one RBI and walk.
Cam Pero followed also going 2-for-3 with one walk on the day.
The Vikings scored first in the top of the second. After
Brady Papineau was walked
Cam Pero sent a single to center field advancing Papineau to third.
Cody Wielgosh laid down a bunt good for a single, and one RBI that got Papineau home giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead.
Later in the bottom of the third Judson took the lead after a pop fly that scored two making it 2-1.
In the top of the fifth
Hunter Logan got on base with a single later advancing to second and third off a
Diesel Goya fly out and
Jaden Babiuk ground out. From third Logan scored on a passed ball tying the game 2-2.
Judson responded in the bottom of the fifth scoring one off a ground ball and error by the shortstop. They extended their 3-2 lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the eight after a single and a sacrifice fly that scored a pair. The Vikings were unable to answer in the top of the ninth and the game ended with a score of 5-2.
Valley City Conner Martin was credited the loss and is now 0-2 on the season. He pitched four and a third innings giving up three runs off two hits. He had nine strikeouts on the day. Viking
Eli Chabot and
Harrison Metz also made trips to the mound. Chabot pitched one inning with no run, no hits, and two strikeouts. Metz pitched two innings yielding two runs, one hit, and three strikeouts.
Judson's Ryan Risch was credited the win after pitching eight innings yielding two runs, five hits, and eight strikeouts. Matt Johnston earned the save.
