KANSAS CITY, KAN. – Valley City State University Baseball split their double header 1-1 against Graceland University. The Vikings fell in the first game 9-6, but came up big in game two, scoring four runs in the bottom for the ninth to take a 13-12 victory.
VCSU moves to 3-1 on the season following the 9-6 loss and the 13-12 win. Graceland University is now 2-4 on the season.
The Vikings are back in action Saturday, Feb. 8 to complete their series against Graceland in a double header starting at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Graceland 9, VCSU 6 (7 inning game)
In the fell behind early giving up three runs in the top of the first. The game stayed at 3-0 in favor of the Yellowjackets until the top of the third where Graceland extend their lead to 4-0.
In the top of the fourth they tacked on another three making the score 7-0. In the bottom of the fourth the Vikings got on the board earning two runs off a
Hunter Logan home run driving home
Cody Wielgosh making the score 7-2.
Graceland tallied two more runs in the top of the fifth making the score 9-2. The Vikings rallied in the bottom of the fifth scoring four runs. Viking's
Jaden Babiuk reached on an error;
Jamel Chabot doubled with Babiuk reaching third.
Brady Papineau singled earning two RBI's.
Alexis Velasco homered making the score 9-6, however the Vikings run ended there. The sixth and seventh innings came and went, and the Vikings come back came up short with the score of 9-6.
VCSU 13, Graceland 12 (9 inning game)
In game two VCSU opened the scoring earning two runs in the bottom of the second off a
Hunter Logan double, and a
Diesel Goya sacrifice fly.
Valley extended the 2-0 lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third. Papineau earned a walk,
Judson Seliskar doubled, and Wielgosh was walked. With the bases loaded Logan and Babiuk were walked making the score 4-0.
Porter Jorgenson singled scoring Wielgosh giving the Vikings a 5-0 lead.
The Yellowjackets found their groove in the top of the fourth scoring seven runs including a grand slam. After a pitching change the Vikings got out of the inning.
With the score of 7-5 the Vikings edged closer in the bottom of the fifth scoring on a dropped strike three making the score 7-6. Graceland responded quickly extending their lead to 10-6 in the top of the sixth.
Jamel Chabot homered to start the sixth making the score 10-7. Moving to the bottom of the seventh Jorgenson scored on a sacrifice fly from Papineau. Graceland found a run in the top of the eighth to make the score 11-8. The Vikings responded driving home

Entering the top of the ninth with the score of 11-9 the Yellowjackets earned one run making the score 12-9. Down three, the Vikings Goya and Chabot were walked. Papineau doubled, driving in Goya making it 12-10. Seliskar was walked and Morcom doubled driving in the game tying run. With the score of 12-12,
Hunter Logan hit a walk off single scoring the game winning run.
VCSU tallied 13 runs, 13 hits, and four errors. Graceland had 12 runs, 8 hits and no errors. Logan had two hits, one walk, three RBI's, and one run. Papineau was 2-for-4 with two RBI's. Babiuk was 2-for-3 with two RBI's.
