Men's basketball defeated by Mayville State

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State University men's basketball team fell to Mayville State University 100-66 on Friday, Feb. 21.
 
The Viking fall to 14-12 on the season and 5-10 in NSAA matchups. The Comets improve to 18-10 and 8-6 in NSAA games.
 
The Comets opened the game quickly earning a 21-10 lead. Playing aggressive and getting to the line, the Comets grew their lead to 57-35.
 
At the half the Vikings shot 15-29 from the field, 3-10 from the three-point line, and 2-2 from the free throw line. They were led by Tyrel Creger with 14 point and two assists.
 
The Comets shot 19-34 from the field, 6-11 from the three-point line, and 13-15 from the free throw line. They were led by JJ White with 17 points and two rebounds.
 
The second half was much of the same and Mayville kept their foot on the gas closing the game with a score of 100-66.
 
The Vikings closed the game shooting 27-59, 7-22 from the three-point line, and 5-5 from the free throw line. Tyrel Creger finished with 21 points, three assists, three rebounds, and a steal.
 
The Comets shots 38-69 from the field, 8-17 from the three-point line, and 16-22 from the free throw line. They were led by JJ White with 28 points, three rebounds, and two steals.
 
The Vikings finish the conference schedule with a record of 5-10, which is good for fourth out of six in the conference. The Vikings hold the tie breaker over Bellevue and Dakota State earning a home playoff game. The Vikings will host the higher rank of Bellevue or Dakota State which will be determined by games on Saturday, Feb. 22. The first playoff game is slated for Wednesday, Feb. 26.
