VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State Men's basketball team, fresh off its overtime win over Minnesota-Morris in the season opener on Tuesday, head to Yankton, South Dakota for two games. Friday the Vikings play Mount Marty University and Saturday they will meet with Doane University.
On Tuesday,
JR Cison and Kaden Larson combined to score eleven of the 15 points for the Vikings in the extra session. Cison ended the night with 30 points, six assists and four steals and hit six three-pointers. Larson netted 21 points, a team high nine rebounds, and four steals. He made four three-pointers, including what proved to be the game winning bucket with 3:15 to go in overtime. Logan Deal with 16 points and five rebounds and
Joel Nelson with ten points and seven boards.
Mount Marty University, who is hosting the two-day event, comes into the game with a 1-2 record on the season. The Lancers are led by Sutton Arend who averages 15.3 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game. Jake Jensen averages 12.7 points and eight rebounds per game.
Doane University, out of Crete, Nebraska, enters the weekend with a 2-1 mark on the season. They are led by Trevon Beckman with 16.7 points, four rebounds and four assists per game. And Jack Wilson who averages 16 points per game.
In the last seven meetings, Valley City State is 4-3 against Mount Marty. Last season, the Vikings defeated the Lancers 76-66 in Yankton. VCSU has won four of the last five meetings and two in a row.
This will be the second meeting between the Vikings and Doane University. The Tigers won the only other meeting, 74-63 back in Valley City back in November of 2011.
Both Mount Marty University and Doane University are members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
