VALLEY CITY, N.D. – After a week off, the Valley City State Vikings are back on the field Saturday, November 8
th, when they travel to Havre, Montana and face the MSU-Northern Lights. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. Central Time/12:00 p.m. Mountain Time at Tilleman Field in Havre, Montana.
The Vikings come into the game with a 5-3 record and are 2-2 in the East Division of the Frontier Conference. The Lights are 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Both teams are coming off games with Dickinson State. The Vikings defeated the Blue Hawks 29-21 back on October 25
th. Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week that week,
Jake Deutsch, had a career day with eight catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback
Joey Cave threw for 211 yards and two scores and added 70 yards rushing and another touchdown.
The defense was led by
TaQuez Chatman who had five tackles, three for a loss, and three sacks. He also deflected a pass on fourth down that stopped a Dickinson State drive in Viking territory late in the fourth quarter.
The Lights loss to Dickinson State 37-20. MSU-Northern led 14-9 at halftime before giving up 28 unanswered points in the second half. Quarterback Ethan Maroni threw for 148 yards and a touchdown and had 45 yards rushing and another score.
Deutsch has 31 catches and 391 yards with five touchdowns this season, all are career highs for the Junior out of Fargo. Cave has completed 63 percent of his passes for 987 yards and ten touchdowns. The junior from Rio Rancho, New Mexico leads the Vikings with 366 yards rushing and three more scores
On the defensive side, Junior
Gavin Gerhardt leads the team with 72 total tackles. Senior
TaQuez Chatman leads the team with 7.5 tackles for a loss and five sacks.
Since 2009, the Vikings are 12-8 in games coming off a bye week. Earlier this year they beat Eastern Oregon 3-0 after a bye week.
