VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Valley City State Women's basketball team opened the 2025-2026 season with a 106-47 win over Providence University College Friday night at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.
The Vikings are 1-0 on the season. The Pilots are 0-1.
The Vikings got a four-point play from 
Abby Aslesen to give the VCSU a 3-0 lead 90 seconds into the game. A three-pointer and a basket inside by Fiona Gracia gave the Pilots a 5-4 lead with 7:44 to go in the first quarter. The rest of the night belonged to the Vikings. VCSU ended the quarter on 22-2 run to lead 26-7 after one quarter.
Valley City State started the second quarter on a 9-0 run to open a 35-7 lead with 7:07 to go in the second quarter. A three-pointer by the Pilots' Faith Larocque cut the lead to 35-10, that would be as close as Providence would get the rest of the night.
The Vikings ended the quarter on a 27-6 run to lead 62-16 after the first 20 minutes. 
Tiyana Schwinghammer scored 14 of her team high 16 points in the first half. 
Olivia Backus scored all eleven of her points in the first half and was 3 of 5 from three-point range.
Three-pointers by 
Ellie Braaten and 
Aubrey Prunty started the third quarter for the Vikings and gave them a 68-16 lead. VCSU led 81-31 after the third quarter.
The Vikings would hit the century mark late in the fourth quarter on a basket inside by 
Ellie Braaten that made the score 100-41. Each team would score six points from that point on making the final 106-47.
The Vikings were led by Schwinghammer's 16 points off the bench. She also added eight rebounds. 
Ellie Powell came off the bench to score 15 points and grab eight rebounds. 
Olivia Backus had eleven points. 
Cassidy Shute chipped in ten points. 
Tilda Mauritzson had a good floor game with eight points, five rebounds, and six steals. All 13 players scored for Valley City State. 
Liz Lukken added eight points. 
Ellie Braaten had seven points, six rebounds, and a game high five assists. 
Abby Aslesen added seven points and eight rebounds.
The two teams will get together for a matinee again on Saturday, November 1
st at the Bubble. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
