VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State University Vikings are back at home Saturday for Senior Day. The Vikings will host Dickinson State at Dacotah Bank Field and Lokken Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
Valley City State looks to bounce back after a tough 40-7 loss to Dakota State on Saturday. Freshman
Ethan Kastner got his first collegiate start on Saturday and threw for 105 yards but was picked off twice. He led the Viking ground game with 24 yards rushing.
Exavian Westbrook had three catches for 46 yards while
Jake Deutsch caught three passes for 32 yards.
TaQuez Chatman led the defense with five tackles, one for a loss, and a sack.
The Blue Hawks have dropped five games in a row coming into Saturday's game. It is the first time since 2013, the Blue Hawks last season in the Frontier before moving to the North Star Athletic Association, that they have lost five games in a row. Dickinson State started the season with wins over Valley City State and Montana State-Northern.
In the first meeting of the season between the Blue Hawks and the Vikings, it was a close game for the first half and part of the third quarter. Dickinson State scored two touchdowns three minutes apart in the third quarter to pull out the 30-15 win.
Joey Cave led the Vikings offense by throwing for 228 yards and a touchdown. He also added 59 yards rushing.
Jake Deutsch had four catches fort 80 yards and a score.
Dominic Sotomayor had six catches for 74 yards, and
Exavian Westbrook had three receptions for 66 yards.
The defense was led by
Dorian Sandness with five tackles, two-and-a-half for a loss and one-and-a-half sacks.
Tarren Larson and
Lorenzo Luchi had sacks that day and
TaQuez Chatman had a half-a-sack.
Prior to the game the seniors will be recognized.
Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
