For the second week in a row, the Vikings play a team coming off an emotional win over Dickinson State. Saturday, the Trojans upended the Blue Hawks 27-25. It was the first ever road win for the Trojans at Dickinson and snapped a 14-game losing streak to the Blue Hawks.

The Vikings are coming off an impressive 21-0 win over Mayville State on Saturday at Dacotah Bank Field. The defense turned Mayville State over ten times with two fumble recoveries, two interceptions and six times turned them over on downs. All three Viking touchdowns came after a turnover or a turnover on downs.

It was the third shutout of the season for the Vikings, and the defense currently ranks ninth in the nation allowing 13.7 points a game. The Vikings are also ninth in the nation in yards allowed a game with 246.7.

Junior Gavin Gerhardt has 33 solo tackles this season which ranks seventh nationally. And his 52 total tackles put him at 22nd. Freshman Fafo Lefano's three interceptions, all in the last two weeks, has him at a log jam at 5th in the nation with 24 other players.

Joey Cave leads the team in rushing yards with 296. Devyne Pearson is next at 210 yards. Cave has complete over 62 percent of his passes for 776 yards with eight touchdowns. Exavian Westbrook has 21 receptions for 231 yards. Jake Deutsch has caught 20 passes for 214 yards and three scores.

Last season, Dakota State swept the Vikings. In the last 37 meetings, dating back to 1986, Valley City leads the series 29-8. The two teams have split the last ten meetings. The last Viking win in Madison was in 2023, a 14-6 win. VCSU has won 13 of the 16 meetings in South Dakota.
