VALLEY CITY, N.D. – Valley City State University men's basketball was bested by Mayville State University 65-48 on Friday Jan. 24. The VCSU Vikings are now 10-10 on the season and 1-7 in NSAA conference games. The MSU Comets move to 14-8 and 5-3 in NSAA conference games.
In the first half the was a blend of Viking turnovers, followed with good defense. The low scoring first half closed with the Vikings leading 25-22. They were led by
Tyrel Creger who had eight points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist.
As a team the Vikings shot 10-27 from the field, 2-8 from the three-point line and 3-4 from the free throw line. The Comets were 9-35 from the field, 0-10 from the three-point line, and 4-6 from the free throw line.
In the second half MSU tied the game 29-29. The teams went back and forth keeping the game close with four lead changes for the first 13 minutes of the second half. With 7:47 remaining Mayville went on a seven-point run growing their two-point lead to a nine point 52-43. Down the stretch MSU held a double-digit lead closing the game 65-48.
To close the game the Vikings shot 18-49 from the field, 3-18 from the three-point line, and 9-12 from the free throw line. They were led by
Lamar Grayson with 18 points followed by
Odier Olange with 13.
The Comets shot 25-62 from the field, 4-15 from the three-point line, and 11-15 from the free throw line. They were led by JJ White with 20 points.
