VALLEY CITY – The Valley City State volleyball team dropped three straight sets to the third-ranked Jimmies in front of a full house Thursday night at The Bubble, 25-18, 25-13 and 25-16.
Jamestown's top hitters Lexi Olson and Charlotte Lempka each posted 11 kills while hitting .500 or above Thursday night to help the road win. Jamestown remains undefeated at 9-0 overall and opens the conference with a 1-0 record. VCSU drops to 9-5 on the season and 1-1 in the NSAA.
The rival teams went head-to-head to open the match Thursday, holding a tie at 15-15 on a
Morgan Nelson kill in set one. Jamestown came out on top after finishing the set on an 8-1 run, including a pair of Lexi Olson kills.
Danielle Hagler went down in the middle of the second set after a back row attack and did not return throughout the remainder of the match. Jamestown took nine straight points to pull away and finish the set 26-13. The Vikings couldn't recover as Jamestown took the final set 25-16.
Valley City State was led by
Morgan Nelson with six kills on the night while
Macy Fridgen tallied five and
Emma Lucas chipped in four.
Delani Clarke recorded a team-high 11 digs, and
Sadie Hansen finished with 19 assists and nine digs for the Vikings.
In addition to Olson's 11 kills, the senior also recorded seven assisted blocks and nine digs on the night. Ellie Holen led all players with 22 digs Thursday night and Aleah Zieske each chipped in nine. Tenley Buddenhagen posted 23 assists and Lily Bertsch added 17 for the Jimmies.
