Bedgood, Vikings defeat Waldorf on Senior Night

VALLEY CITY – Cleveland Bedgood poured in a game-high 26 points, and the VCSU men's basketball team led for the final 26 minutes Saturday against Waldorf University.
 
Bedgood's big night helped the Vikings snap a 3-game losing streak with an 86-77 win over the Warriors.
 
VCSU is now 11-13 overall and 3-7 in conference play with two NSAA games remaining. Waldorf drops to 9-15 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
 
After being recognized prior to the game for Senior Night, Bedgood went out and put together an impressive all-around performance for the Vikings. He led both teams in points (26), rebounds (7), assists (5) and steals (3). Bedgood made three 3's and finished the game shooting 10-for-14 from the field. He scored 17 of his points in the first half.
 
Viking point guard Cayden Rickard posted his second straight double-figure scoring night, finishing with 11 points and 3 steals. Odier Olange made three 3-pointers and tallied 16 points and five rebounds. LaDarious Stanfield gave the Vikings a spark off the bench with 12 points and 5 rebounds.
 
Waldorf had a balanced attack with five players in double figures, led by 21 points from Khalil Grayson and 15 by Kyle Washington.
 
Valley City State shot 59 percent in the first half and 54 percent in the game. The Vikings trailed 27-22 with 8 minutes remaining in the first half, but strung together a quick 9-0 run to take the lead for good. VCSU outscored Waldorf 24-9 over the final 8 minutes of the half, taking a 44-36 lead into the locker room. The Vikings did not trail in the second half and led by as many as 14 points.
 
VCSU went 31-for-57 from the field (54 percent), 8-for-23 on 3's (35 percent) and 16-for-18 on free throws. Waldorf shot 48 percent overall (31-65), 39 percent on 3's (7-18) and 73 percent at the line (8-11).
 
Up next: Valley City State finishes the regular season on the road next weekend with games at Dakota State and Bellevue University. The Vikings are currently one game back of fifth in the NSAA standings heading into the final weekend of conference play.
