JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Valley City State football team fell to rival Jamestown in its season finale, 28-17. The Vikings finish the season 3-7 overall and 2-6 in conference play. The Jimmies also finish their season 3-7 and 3-5 in the NSAA.
The Vikings received the ball in the first half. Starting on their own 34-yard line, the Vikings drove to the Jimmie 40-yard line where
Noah Chambers was intercepted. The Jimmies went nine plays for 41 yards and missed and 41-yard field goal for their opening possession. From good field position, the Vikings went seven plays and 47 yards the resulted in a 46-yard
Yzan Lorenzo field goal.
The Vikings had captured the first lead of the game. In the ensuing possession, the Jimmies were forced to punt where an errant snap gave the Vikings a first and goal from the Jimmie 1-yard line. Scoring on a
Laggarius Marshell touchdown run, the Vikings took a 10-0 lead.
After forcing the Jimmies to punt once more, VCSU went 12 plays for 63-yards and a touchdown from Marshell. After a made extra point, the Vikings led 17-0 with 6:01 left in the first half.
Before halftime the Jimmies found the endzone on a seven play 62-yard drive capped off with a Johnny Grann pass to Colton Schumach. After a missed extra point, the score entering halftime was 17-6 in favor of the Vikings.
In the third, the Jimmies connected on a 70-yard passing touchdown to Isaiah Roebuck. After missing the extra point, the score was 17-12. Following the missed extra point the Jimmies recovered an onside kick, but that drive ended in a punt. The Vikings struggled to find momentum on offense in the third and the Jimmies kicked a field goal to close the gap to 17-15.
In the fourth, the Vikings had a punt blocked and recovered for a Jimmie touchdown. With a made extra point, the Jimmies took a 22-17 lead. A few possessions later the Jimmies scored on a seven play, 74-yard drive that ended in a two-yard rushing touchdown. After a missed extra point, the Vikings were down two possessions and 11 points with time ticking away. In the ensuing possession
Noah Chambers was intercepted. The game came to a final score of 28-17.
The Vikings earned 17 first downs, tallied 216 yards of offense on 73 rushing yards and 143 passing yards.
Laggarius Marshell ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jimmies earned 16 first downs, 339 yards of offense with 262 passing yards and 77 rushing yards. Quarterback Johnny Grann had 262 pass yards, two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. On defense, Jed Rantz had eight total tackles for Jamestown.
