BELLEVUE, NEB. – The Valley City State volleyball team fell to top-seed Bellevue in the NSAA Semifinals Friday night. The Bruins swept the Vikings on their home court 25-16, 25-12 and 25-13.
VCSU posts a 15-14 overall record on the season and finishes with a 5-5 mark in conference play. Bellevue, which is ranked No. 5 in the NAIA, improves to 27-3 on the season and advances to the NSAA Championship game against No. 3-seed Dakota State that will be played Saturday at 2 p.m.
Bellevue proved to be too much for the Vikings Friday night, putting together a .388 hitting percentage with 51 kills and just six attack errors in the match. NSAA Player of the Year Kealy Kivineimi posted a .500 attack percentage with 10 kills and one error in 18 swings for Bellevue. The Bruins held the Vikings to a .038 attack percentage and forced 20 attack errors on the night.
VCSU's
Sadie Hansen finished with 15 assists, eight digs and five kills in the match.
Macy Fridgen totaled six kills while
Morgan Nelson and
Emma Lucas each tallied four. Nelson, Hansen and
Morgan Freije each posted two blocks Friday.
JayCee Richter tallied a team-best 13 digs in the match followed by
Reagan Bogenreif who posted 10 and
Delani Clarke who tallied eight.
Bellevue's Eve Fountain contributed 10 kills while Haley Fleischman added nine for the Bruins. Sidney Sledge and Savanna Berger added seven kills and four blocks apiece. Taylan Keefer led all players with 15 digs in the match, and Victoria Runyan added 11 for the Bruins.
The Vikings now wait for an at-large bid to the the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament. The
NAIA National Volleyball Selection Show will air Monday, Nov. 18 at 12 p.m.
