FOREST CITY, IOWA –
Cleveland Bedgood scored the game-winner with 1.9 seconds remaining Saturday as the Valley City State men's basketball team picked up a much-needed road win at Waldorf University.
Tied at 74-74, Bedgood drove to the hoop and converted a tough lay-up in the final seconds, securing a 76-74 win for the Vikings. Waldorf had a last-gasp 3-point attempt but it was off the mark as the Vikings earned the big road win.
Valley City State improves to 10-10 overall this season and is now 2-4 in conference play. Waldorf University drops to 7-14 overall and 2-4 in the NSAA.
One night after scoring 46 points in a loss at Viterbo University, Bedgood put up a team-high 19 points on Saturday and made the game winner.
Lamar Grayson scored 14 points and
Odier Olange scored 12 – both of whom came off the bench.
Agwa Nywesh added 11 points and Ladarious Stanfield finished with nine points and four rebounds.
Khalil Grayson made three 3's and scored a team-high 20 points for Waldorf. Noah Miller added 15 points – all coming on 3-pointers. Waldorf made 11 3's in the game, but Valley City State shot 47 percent to overcome Waldorf's 3-point barrage.
VCSU shot 30-for-63 overall (47.6 percent) and went 4-for-14 on 3's. Waldorf shot 40 percent overall (25-62) and went 11-for-30 on 3's.
VCSU fell behind 41-35 at halftime and trailed by as many as 10 points early in the second half at 52-42. The Vikings put together a 12-2 run and eventually tied the game at 54-54 on a layup by
Lamar Grayson. With the game tied at 72-72, Bedgood finished the game with a pair of baskets. His jumper with 1:23 remaining put VCSU ahead 74-72, and then he broke the 74-74 tie with his winner in the final seconds.
