Olney stepping down as VCSU baseball coach

Olney's teams set 21 records during his tenure.
VALLEY CITY (VCSU) – Valley City State University athletics announced today that Casey Olney is stepping down from his position as head baseball coach and assistant athletic director.

Olney has been a VCSU baseball coach for 18 seasons, including the last 16 seasons as head coach. He has also served as an assistant athletic director for the past six years. During Olney's tenure as head coach the Vikings set 21 team or individual school records – which includes a school record 32 wins during the 2014-15 season.

Olney guided the team to numerous Top 3 finishes in the North Star Athletic Association regular season, and in 2019 the Vikings advanced to the NSAA Tournament Championship Game.

"I want to thank all the players, coaches, and supporters who invested their time and energy into Valley City State University baseball over the last 18 years," said Olney. "The opportunity to coach and be involved in collegiate athletics is a unique and special experience that VCSU afforded me. For that, I will forever be grateful. I will always be a VCSU Viking."

Olney also previously served as president of the Valley City Baseball Association and was a catalyst for numerous improvements made over the years at Charlie Brown Field – including a team clubhouse that is scheduled to be completed this summer.

"I appreciate Casey's dedication, pride and passion for Viking Baseball over the years," said Dennis McCulloch, VCSU's interim athletic director. "He has worked very hard on our campus and at Charlie Brown Baseball Field to improve the student-athlete experience. He has impacted many student-athlete's lives in a positive way. We thank Casey for all he has done for VCSU and Viking Baseball and wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

A nationwide search for a new head baseball coach will begin immediately.
