LA CROSSE, WIS. – The Valley City State men's basketball team finished its weekend road trip with a 1-1 record, following up Friday's win at Waldorf with a 94-62 loss on Saturday at Viterbo University.
The V-Hawks shot 58 percent on their home floor, taking a 41-29 halftime lead and then pulling away from VCSU in the second half.
The Vikings are now 13-12 overall and 6-5 in the North Star Athletic Association. VCSU is currently tied with Dickinson State for fourth place in the NSAA standings. The V-Hawks move to 14-10 overall and 8-3 in conference play – sitting second in the standings.
Hunter Lyman had an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double on Saturday for VCSU. Daevonte Munson led the Vikings with 15 points and four assists. Duoth Gach made three 3's and finished with 13 points and two steals. Cayden Rickard added nine points and three assists.
The Vikings shot 40 percent overall (23-58), 26 percent on 3's (5-19) and 73 percent at the line (11-15). Viterbo finished the game at 58 percent overall (34-59), 55 percent on 3's (12-22) and 67 percent on free throws (14-21).
Up next: Valley City State returns home for a pair of games next weekend. The Vikings host Bellevue University on Friday and Dakota State on Saturday.
